Diagnostic Trouble Codes


Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC’s) are a series of alphanumeric identifiers which have been standardised by SAE (the American Society for Automobile Engineers) and ISO (the European International Standards Organisation) and are intended to be used by vehicle manufacturers worldwide.

These DTC’s are used to identify vehicle system, and/or component malfunctions. For example, the Device Trouble Code "P0127" indicates that the engine "intake air temperature is too high".

The DTC Reference lists all SAE OBD defined Diagnostic Trouble Codes along with their corresponding descriptions:
